Stu’s competitive nature is what fuels his passion for auto racing and keeps him in the driver’s seat. “Even as a very young boy, I was
competitive,” says Stu. His desire to win isn’t limited to auto racing, either. Whether racing Karts, riding motorcycles, snowmobiles, or skiing,
Stu always wants to finish first. “I’m not a poor loser,” he adds, “but I’ll always try to figure out a way to win the next time.”
Recent: Stu finished the 2005 SPEED World Challenge GT Series 7th in points running nine of ten events. After starting the season with a disappointing
29th place finish at Sebring, Stu improved with every race and ended up with seven top ten finishes – three in the top five. His top position, a fourth
place finish, occurred at Lime Rock Park.
Career Highlights: Stu began racing in Super-Vs, followed by Formula Atlantic. In 1988, he was the Inaugural Corvette Challenge Champion and
Escort Endurance GT Champion. The following year, Stu competed in his first Trans-Am race at Long Beach Grand Prix, finishing fifth and claiming
“Star of the Race” honors. As team driver of the Morrison Corvette ZR1 Program, Stu set 12 international and three world land speed records at
over 175 mph for 24 hours, 5000km and 5000 miles.
In 1991, he scored three top-five finishes in only four Trans-Am starts (Portland, Road America, Texas World) and won the Portland Rose Cup trophy.
In 1998, he competed in only six Trans-Am races, posting strong efforts at each event, including his first career Trans-Am win at Road America, a
second at Long Beach Grand Prix and a charge from 42nd to third at Watkins Glen. Stu ended the season with three podium finishes, three fastest
race laps, two Fast Five appearances and earned the “Turn on the Power” award at Long Beach, Watkins Glen and Road America.
Stu has the distinction of winning two races (one hour sprint and 12 hour endurance), in two different series (Corvette Challenge & SCCA Endurance
Championship), in two different countries (US & Canada), in two different type racecars, within a single, 24-hour period!
Staying Competitive: “Until last year, I’d compete in at least two different racing series just to get more seat time. Now that we’re only concentrating
on the World Challenge GT Series, I’ve gone back to go-karting to keep that competitiveness.” Recently, Stu raced against 29 other drivers in HPV-4
at Moran Kart Track, qualified on the pole and won both races. Says Stu, “Now THAT was a lot of fun! “ |
